A Challenging Windshield Replacement on BMW’s Newest M4
We recently completed a windshield replacement on a 2026 BMW M4 in Phoenix, Arizona. While replacing the glass itself is fairly straightforward for an experienced technician, BMW continues to make the camera and mirror assembly increasingly complex on newer models.
Removing the factory camera housing without damaging any clips or trim took extra patience, including finding and disconnecting the wire hidden underneath the headliner, but after carefully transferring all of the original components to the new windshield, we completed the installation and performed the required dynamic ADAS calibration.
Unlike some vehicles that require a static calibration using targets inside a shop, this BMW required a dynamic calibration, meaning the vehicle had to be driven under specific conditions so the forward-facing camera could relearn its position and verify proper operation.
The calibration completed successfully, restoring the vehicle’s driver assistance features, including systems that rely on the windshield-mounted camera.
