Will Filing an Auto Glass Claim Raise My Insurance Premium?

Call, Text, or Get a Fast Mobile Quote

Filing an auto glass claim does not automatically mean your premium will increase. Arizona law prohibits an insurer from increasing your motor vehicle premium because of an accident you did not cause or significantly contribute to.
That protection does not guarantee an unchanged renewal price. Before filing, ask your insurer how the circumstances of your glass damage will be classified and treated under your policy.

What Arizona Law Says About Premium Increases

Under A.R.S. § 20-263, an insurer cannot increase your motor vehicle premium because of an accident you did not cause or significantly contribute to. If an insurer increases your premium because of accident involvement, it must notify you of the reason.

The circumstances of the damage matter. Ask your insurer how your glass claim is classified and how Arizona’s protection applies to it.

A $0 glass deductible addresses your out-of-pocket cost for covered glass work. It does not guarantee that your total premium will remain unchanged at renewal.

What If Your Premium Increases at Renewal?

A higher renewal price alone does not establish that your glass claim caused the increase. Ask your insurer or agent to explain what changed and how the claim was treated.

If the insurer attributes an increase to an accident you did not cause or significantly contribute to, ask how that decision complies with Arizona’s premium protection. Keep your renewal notice, claim records, and the insurer’s explanation.

Compare Insurance and Cash-Price Options

Before deciding whether to file, compare the repair or replacement price with your deductible and confirmed coverage. Ask your insurer about any potential effect on your policy, discounts, or future premium.

1st Shot Auto Glass can help verify windshield insurance coverage, provide a cash quote, and coordinate an approved claim. Your insurer or agent should answer questions about premium treatment.

Address damage promptly, even if you choose to pay out of pocket.

Questions to Ask Your Insurer Before Filing

  • How will this damage be classified?
  • How does Arizona’s premium protection apply to these circumstances?
  • What coverage and deductible apply?
  • Could the claim affect any discounts, and how would that comply with Arizona law?
  • Is an inspection or photo required before work begins?
  • If calibration is required, is it included in the approved claim?

Keep a record of the answers and any claim authorization.

Where to Get Help With a Premium Dispute

Start by asking your insurer or agent for an explanation and keep copies of your correspondence. If you believe an increase violates Arizona law and the issue remains unresolved, contact the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions for information about filing an insurance complaint.
