We recently completed a mobile windshield replacement on this blue 2021 Chrysler Pacifica in Northwest Mesa, AZ, near Loop 101 and Loop 202.

This Pacifica came equipped with several windshield-mounted electronic components, including a rain sensor, humidity sensor, and forward-facing camera. Replacing the windshield required carefully removing and protecting these components before cutting out the original glass.

We documented the process from disassembly and windshield removal through adhesive preparation and installation of the replacement glass. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the work involved.

Preparing the Rain Sensor, Humidity Sensor, and ADAS Camera

Before removing the original windshield, we carefully disassembled the housing surrounding the rearview mirror to access the windshield-mounted electronics.

This 2021 Chrysler Pacifica was equipped with a rain sensor, humidity sensor, and forward-facing camera used by its driver-assistance systems. Each component was documented and carefully disconnected before the windshield removal began.

The following photos show the original housing, the exposed components, and the assemblies after disconnection.

Removing the Original Chrysler Pacifica Windshield

With the windshield-mounted electronics safely disconnected, we began cutting out the original glass.

We first used a cold knife equipped with a 90-degree angled blade to cut through the existing urethane adhesive along the windshield edges. This tool allows us to work between the glass and adhesive while carefully separating the windshield from the vehicle.

For the lower windshield and bottom corners, we switched to a powered extractor, which cuts between the glass and urethane in areas where the cold knife is less practical.

Trimming the Old Urethane for the New Windshield

After lifting out the original windshield, we used a pipe knife to trim the remaining urethane adhesive around the windshield opening.

Working along the upper frame, sides, and lower corners, we carefully shaved down the existing adhesive to prepare a consistent bonding surface for the new windshield. This step helps establish a proper foundation for the fresh urethane bead and replacement glass.

Applying Fresh Urethane Adhesive to the Windshield Frame

With the original urethane trimmed and the bonding surface prepared, we applied a fresh bead of DuPont automotive windshield urethane around the Chrysler Pacifica’s windshield opening.

The adhesive bead was carefully positioned to provide continuous contact between the replacement glass and the vehicle’s bonding surface. Proper urethane application is essential for windshield retention, weather sealing, and a secure installation.

With the fresh urethane bead in place, we carefully positioned and set the replacement windshield into the prepared opening.

Once the glass was seated, we checked its alignment and fitment along the surrounding body panels. The windshield was now installed, completing the main glass replacement portion of the job.

The remaining steps involved reinstalling the windshield-mounted electronics and interior components, along with any required post-installation checks.

Dynamic ADAS Camera Calibration After Windshield Replacement

After installing the replacement windshield and reassembling the windshield-mounted electronics, the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica received a dynamic ADAS camera calibration.

Unlike static calibration, which uses specialized targets in a controlled environment, dynamic calibration is performed while driving under the appropriate conditions using vehicle-specific calibration procedures.

This process helps ensure the forward-facing camera is properly calibrated following windshield replacement, supporting the accurate operation of the vehicle’s camera-based driver-assistance features.
